What to Wear On a First Date

Going on a date is an act that sets even adult hearts pounding with fear. A run-in with the sweetest guy can quickly turn into the same horrifying question in every girl’s mind. “What do I wear?”

It’s something that has puzzled women for ages and no matter how old we get, it never gets any easier. If you’re like me, you always have trouble knowing exactly what to wear, what colours to wear and how sexy you should be. These easy guidelines should get you started.

Where Are You Going

The most important thing about choosing what to wear on a date is to decide where you are going. Is it a fancy restaurant, a picnic, a drink in a café, or just lunch? Where you’re going decides what you wear. For dinner, you should definitely dress formally, but for everything else, it should be something more casual.

Take Your Figure into Consideration

Check the mirror and take a look at yourself. I know for some of us, that it’s not as easy as it could be, but it’s a necessary step. Decide whether you are tall, slim, short, heavy, thick, thin or whatever and go by it when you dress. Heavier women look better in loose and flowing clothes, and thinner women look more appealing in clothing that is form fitting but not overly tight.

Colours to Choose

Most people look universally appealing in dark colours but depending on your skin tone; you will look best in any number of colours. A survey in 2011 showed that men find that peach is the most appealing colour on women so if you want to wear a shirt and a skirt or jeans, try wearing a peach top. If you aren’t sure about your skin tone, look at your skin and your veins, reddish skin with blue veins means you are gold tones and pale skin with greenish veins means that you are silver toned. Gold tones can wear gold-coloured jewellery and ten to look exceptional in red and other rich fabrics. Silver tones can wear slightly more muted tones as well as reds, sapphires and blues, greens and mints to a similarly stunning effect. Alternately, you could wear a classy cocktail dress which I think is suitable for all occasions.

Sex It Up?

Despite the urge that most of us have to sex-it-up and go all out on a first date; experts recommend to the contrary and I agree with them. Usually, you won’t actually want to sleep with your first date so you should dress accordingly. Dress to impress but don’t overdo it. Keep to the rule of only showing off one body part at a time. Legs, breasts or back, with the back being the classiest option you can choose. If you want to, you can always save the plunging necklines and micro-mini skirts for later.

Accessories

Jewellery and makeup are also challenging. My advice is to go with a simple but flattering makeup (I.E. noticeable but not over the top) you want to give the impression that you’re trying but not trying too hard. Remember, makeup is at its best when there is very little of it on. For jewellery, try finding something that flatters you and matches your outfit. A dress can be worn with chunky bracelets and a necklace. A boho-top could be paired with a simple necklace. Or you could wear anything that looks good with the outfit.

For shoes, you should wear something that flatters you and your outfit. It’s perfectly acceptable to wear anything from flats, boots to four-inch stilettos (higher is usually considered too sexy for a first date.
