Wanna Heal Your Heart? Then Write a Poem!

I love to write. Obviously, I’m constantly writing on my blogs! But I also write for many other reasons.

I write to share my joy during the day. I write to keep my goals and dreams in my vision. And I write when I’m upset or angry about something.

If you are going through a hard time like a break up or a loss of some sort then you may find that writing will do you some good as well. It’s worth a try right?

Some off the most touching and honest poems I’ve seen  have been done I a state of anger or depression. All you have to do is type in the term ‘depression poems’ and you will find a ton of them to occupy your reading time.

Poetry allows us to express ourselves. It doesn’t have to be perfect if you are not a paid poet! It just has to be honest and real, and normally you don’t write what’s not in your head anywase – so that makes it pretty real.

The definition (or the most meaningful reason for poetry) is this – a way to express yourself through a form of meaning, so as to bring about an emotional response.

So for instance if you have had a break-up and you are having hard time facing the break-up then  you may want to write a poem. The honesty in the poem will allow you to be honest with yourself. You can release some pain by writing it, read it, and then release some more pain.

The important thing to remember is that you don’t have to criticize yourself on your words or form. This is YOUR expression of emotion after all. Just write and let it come out however it see’s fit. Write as if you are talking and let the lines break whenever you feel like they should break. It doesn’t have to be unison and pretty!

Once you write a poem full of emotion and allow it to help you heal pain or suffering of some sort, you will find that you will turn to poems and writing more often. It could possibly take away stress from your life by releasing emotions that would otherwise get stuck in you. What a great form of medicine! It’s free, it’s personal, and it’s easy.
