Should Goals and Dreams Be Pursued?

I saw this question on yahoo answers not long ago when I was looking for goal setting software testimonials. It was a little crazy to me! This was the question…

Q: Should goals and dreams be realized or just stay goals and dreams? I was talking to a friend recently and she said something that caught me ear. She said it’s ok to have goals and dreams just as long as they stay that way. This comment, however well meaning, seems to be fear based. Should we live in fear of our dreams of achieving goals because we might fail or fall short or just GO FORIT! What are your thoughts?

Advice From Someone Stuck in Life?

Can you imagine what the woman’s life is like who said “It’s okay to have goals and dreams just as long as they stay that way” – She must have a pretty uneventful, predictable life. She must not TRY anything new for fear that she shouldn’t succeed. She can’t have set any goals and she can’t be taking steps towards those goals.

Her limiting belief of goals and dreams being to unrealistic to reach is what is holding her back from the life she wants. I can guarantee she is not living the life she wants. She is living the life she thinks that she deserves– whatever that is.

And then the poor guy who was unlucky enough to get a taste of her limiting belief in the form of advice – how confusing it must be for someone to hear that they shouldn’t go for their dreams from someone who absolutely believes that they shouldn’t GO FOR IT!

Fear is always going to be there when it comes to our goals and dreams. Fear of not succeeding, fear of failure, fear of judgement…fear of not being good enough! But nobody has ever learned their capabilities without pushing through their fear. Having fear is fine, in fact it’s unavoidable, as long as you don’t let that fear hold you back in life. Fear is meant to push through; it’s not meant to rule our lives!

I feel bad for that woman. But I’m glad that he is questioning the thought that goals and dreams are unachievable, and I hope he realizes he dreams and full potential and shows that woman what he’s capable of!
